Comment:
The itinerary was great, the truck was ok, the campsites we used were spectacular. Too bad the guide was TERRIBLE! He hooked up with a client two days into the tour, and paid ALL his attention to her for the next 20 days! It was like being a third wheel on somebody's date! He gave little information about the countries, animals, etc, and some of the information he gave was wrong. He wasn't even a good driver- he kept taking major wrong turns every time we were on the road... he even got us stuck in the mud overnight after going to the wrong camping area! The truck did break down once, which is understandable, but we were left in the desert by the side of the road for SIX HOURS because Drifter's was too cheap to send a vehicle to come pick us up. I understand that "this is Africa", and things like this happen all the time... except were only an hour and a bit outside of Swakopmund, a major city where Drifter's had an office! They just decided to let us sit there on the side of the road in the heat when they could've easily done something to help their clients out. Because of the delay, our itinerary was all messed up and we had to spend the night in a horrible little fishing village instead of one of the most spectacular campsites on the tour. All of us on the tour decided to NEVER AGAIN use Drifter's. Drifter's needs to hire more mature, experienced guides- not ones that are suited to Contiki tours- and work a little harder on their customer service. |

Comment:
Our tour followed the description in the brochure exactly. The tour leader was great, taking into consideration everyone in the group. The food was plentiful and varied including some South African dishes. The accomodations were tents and Drifters privately owned lodges and campgrounds but also included National park campgrounds. |
