I traveled in Tanzania from January 28, to February 13, 2011 along with our group of 8 Canadians. After an extended search we choose to book our trip with Bright African Safaris (BAS) as our tour operator with Msangi Charema (sales@brightafricansafaris.com) They are a local company own by Tanzanian and absolutely dedicated to their guest.

Msangi was very helpful in finding tented lodge for our group according to our plans. Everything went on as planned. No surprise, No extras.

On the first week, 5 members of our group were heading for the Kilimanjaro while the 3 others were going on a safari to meet with the bushman and the Masai in very remote area where no tourist are going.

The guides on the Kili (Especially our head guide; Gerald) were amazing. It was obvious that they wanted all of us to summit, and they were ready to do everything for it. The equipment was in very good condition and we always felt safe with them.
As for the porters, they were well paid by BAS (to the contrary of some other guiding companies). Our porters were always smiling and very friendly. By the time we reach the next camp for the night, the tents were set and the food ready. Reaching the summit was an achievement made possible with the efforts of Gerald and his team. Thank you Gerald, we will never forget you!

On the second week all our group reunited for a 6 days safari to Tarangire-Manyara-Ndutu conservation Area-Serengeti-Ngorongoro Crater. I was glad we were assign two Stretch Toyota Land Cruiser with Pop-up top which made the trip comfortable.
We were driven by two experience guides (Ameri and Youssouf) The two of them proved very friendly and fluent in english and a little bit in french. They were great at spotting the animals and knew pretty well were to look for them. So we were lucky enough to see them all has everyone dreams of before going on a journey like this one.

I must say I was quite nervous to send all the money for our group to a complete stranger prior to our trip, as requested by all Safaris company. But Bright African Safaris met our expectations and beyond. If we asked for a change to the itinerary, or requested a driver for a visit of Arusha, No problem Msangi was there to help us.

So, if like us, you are about to book your trip to Tanzania and dont know who to book with BAS is the company to go with and you will not be disapointed

Me and my young sister been volunteering at Marine Project in Dar es salaam since late last year to early 09.
We wanted to go on safari on Christmas 08 cause we had a short break.
We then could not afford to go on private tour because we were two broke students. We then advised with some friend if we could check with Msangi who had been good on organizing group Tour for those who would like to join people who are willing to make a group. We tried to check with him but by that time it was very tight to get a chance for two because all the groups that he had were full booked. He then promised us that, he could find one to two person who might join us and go on safaris. Mh, it was like dreams but finally we made it and for sure I can not say all about Msangi But he is among the best Tanzanian Guide who is trying to establish his small company.
We were more than cared. On the last day i then finished my care money and I was trying to bargain to buy some souvenir but Msangi helped to top up what I had so as I could not miss it while I loved it already.

I have recommended Msangi with his small firm Bright African Safaris to the numbers of fellows and am sure there is nobody came back with any positive comments.

i did a 5 day safari with my parents with this company in december 07 which was absolutely amazing. the food was wonderful, the guides were extremely friendly and very knowledgable and our safari was mad to fit my families interests better than i ever could have imagined. we did a few cultural tours which were of interest to everyone in our party and we particularily enjoyed the beautiful village of Usangi in the Pare mountians. The tour operator also arranged for my family to visit an agricultural college in one village knowing that we are a north american ranching family and that it would be of great interest to my father. it blew me away that they would go to this extent to accomadate our interests.msangi charema also helped me to get in contact with my parents before they came out as i was living and working in tanzania in an area with international communication barriers and he even arranged some one to pick me up at my hostel and take me to the airport to meet my family. the absolute class and level of service provided by this young company was beyond my wildest expectations on our safari and did not fail to astound me when i joined them again in june to do a trek up kilimanjaro on the marangu route. once again we had a wonderful team of guides, porters, cooks and assistants that helped to make this difficult trek the best time of my life. Festo was once again our cook with another new cook in training and the food never ceased to amaze us and was all we looked forward to after along day of hiking. our guide Eddy was an extremely friendly man and had great knowledge of the mountain and everything related to it. we also had assistant guides without whom i never would have reached the summit and probably would have sat down and gone to sleep on summit day. The crew made this such a wonderfu experience and i will never forget any of the people i met on my safari or my kili trek. since going on safari with Bright African Safaris in December i have reccomended quite a few people that i was working with in tanzania to this company for both safaris and kilimanjaro trek and i have yet to get any bad feed back and so far everyone has seemed to be as utterly impressed with the company as i was. I am thinking about going back and doing another route up kilimanjaro and i would never even think twice about going with Bright African Safaris yet again.

Highly highly recommend this company:
My Husband, daughter and myself traveled with Bright African Safaris for 6 days just prior to Christmas 2007. We had a mix of cultural and wild life tours to satisfy all our interests. We visited Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Eyasi, the Bushmen camp, the Agricultural Research Institute at Tengeru and Usangi village
My favorite place out of everywhere was the small village of Usangi in the North Pare Highlands. Beautiful beyond compare and off the beaten track, so very peaceful. The people there are very friendly and there is a very nice new small hotel in the centre of the village. Well worth a visit, you won’t regret taking the time.
John our guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed many interesting and varied conversations with him during the tour. Festo the cook has to be the best cook in all Tanzania, the meals were fantastic; Jamal was training with him during our time there.
The owner and I spend countless hours back and forth on the internet making the arrangements, which also included meeting up with our daughter in Dar es Salaam, as she was working in Tanzanian at the time and we had encountered difficulty in communicating with her, so Msangi made all the arrangements to meet with her for us. Without his help I am not sure just how we would have managed.
Also my daughter climbed Kili with them in June before returning home to Canada. She was very impressed with the guides, and service and thrilled to have Festo once again cooking. She said that without the personal attention and help of the guide there is no way she could have made it to the summit, as she was climbing while recovering from a knee injury, but did not want to miss the opportunity. .

I just got back form a five week trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar and would absolutely recommend Bright African Safaris for any visit to the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, and/or the Ngorongoro Crater. Bright African Safaris is owned by a local Arusha man who is incredibly accommodating and uses an excellent guide named Dixon and a fantastic cook named Jamal. Dixon speaks very good English and has an extensive knowledge of the animals and their habitats. Dixon was wonderfully entertaining at night around the bush camps and we absolutely enjoyed discussing politics, wild life, etc. with him. Jamal is an amazing bush cooker that made us some of the best meals we ate in Tanzania - three to four courses! The cost was around $US 250 per day per person which was very competitive for most budget Safaris. Bright African Safaris can be reached through this info:
